RAF Halton Sprint Triathlon 2014

RAF Halton Sprint Triathlon

For the 131st Entry charitable event for 2014 seven of us assembled on a glorious Sunday in May back at RAF Halton for the RAF Halton Sprint Triathlon for Rennie Grove Hospice Care. Competing as individuals were Tom Ambrose, Terry Godsmark, Bob Lee and Gary Archer, competing as a team were Gary Bosworth (Swim), Marcus Mahy (Bike) and Tim Mc Creanny (Run).

The Sprint Triathlon consisted of a 300 meter swim, 10 lengths of the venerable RAF Halton swimming pool, a 22 km bike ride, which consisted of two circuits on the roads around Halton, Weston Turville and Wendover, and finally, a 5 km run around the playing fields of Halton, including the rather steep incline up to Halton House.

Considering our ages of 51 or 52, and various injuries we all carry around at that age, we all achieved pretty good times, Bob’s in particular:

Bob Lee: 1 Hr 14 Mins

Tom Ambrose: 1 Hr 20 Mins

The Team: 1 Hr 21 Mins

Gary Archer: 1 Hr 33 Mins

Terry Godsmark: 1 Hr 40 Mins

After a shower, lunch was taken at the Shoulder of Mutton in Wendover, and then there was a nap for some. In the evening there was a celebration party at Aylesbury Squash Club, also in aid of the fundraising effort. Members of the squash club had also taken part in the Triathlon and the club generously donated the clubhouse for free for the party. The club and it’s members raised £2,260, a fine effort.

Many thanks to the 131 member’s generous sponsorship and sponsorship from friends and family. The guys from 131st Entry raised over £2000 for Rennie Grove Hospice Care, a brilliant effort by all involved, the participants, support team and the 131st supporters on the day, Kev Hamel, Ian Hinks and Tony Smith.
